NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management
The new Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 came into force on 1st October 2006. This means that all employers must assess their own risks and will beresponsible for fire safety management and risk control within the overall requirements of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (as amended 2003/2006). The Fire Precautions Act 1971 and Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997 have been repealed. Fire and Rescue Authorities will be the Enforcement Agency.
Fire Certificates previously issued by Fire Authorities will be discontinued the total responsibility will rest on employers and occupiers of premises. To undertake this task staff carrying out fire risk assessments need to ensure their competence in undertaking the analysis of all fire risks throughout workplace activities and premises.
The NEBOSH National General Certificate has been recognised for many years as the basis for a sound, broad introduction to the fundamentals of occupational health and safety. The NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate is designed to provide a similarly sound foundation in fire safety and risk management.
The introduction of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 re-emphasises the duties on employers to ensure that fire risk assessments are made of workplaces and other premises. The NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate has been designed to provide an appropriate breadth of underpinning knowledge for non specialists in fire safety to enable them to discharge more effectively their organisational duties or functions with respect to workplace fire safety. The Certificate has been designed for managers, supervisors, employee representatives and others and aims to equip holders to contribute to the conduct and review of fire risk assessments and fire preventive and protective measures within most workplaces. NEBOSH Certificate FC1 & FC2 will be issued to all successful candidates passing the 2 hour written examination and practical assessment. Persons already holding the NEBOSH General Certificate will also receive a parchment
